How do I log into Google Apps?

What does Google Apps include? Is it just for email and calendaring? What else can I do with Google Apps?

Google Apps for Education includes several communication and collaboration applications well-suited for colleges and universities. Included are: email, calendaring, Google Drive, Google Sites, Google Talk (voice and video chat), and Google Voice.

What assurances do we have from Google that they will respect the privacy of our data?

Our Google Apps contract assures us that Google will not intrude on the privacy of our data. The policy specifically states, “Google does not own your data. We do not take a position on whether the data belongs to the institution signing up for Apps, or the individual user (that’s between the two of you), but we know it doesn’t belong to us! How much space do I have for my email messages? What if I run out of space?

Your Google Apps account has 25GB of storage. You should never run out of space. In fact, a heavy email user who sends and receives lots of file attachments and archives messages might use only a small portion of this space each year. Also note that Google restricts the size of file attachments to 20MB, so you don’t have to worry about a few large files using up your storage space.

I already have a personal Gmail account. Do I need to activate my DePauw Google Apps account?

Yes. We recommend everyone use their DePauw Google Apps account for work/school purposes. Personal accounts are different than your DePauw Google Apps account, which is your official DePauw account. All mail that you send from Google Apps will automatically be identified as being from your DePauw address ( As well, in DePauw’s Google Apps Mail, you have access to the email addresses of everyone at DePauw. Also, if you are scheduling a meeting with several of your DePauw colleagues, DePauw’s Google Apps will enable you to check their availability.

Legitimate emails are being placed in my spam folder. How can I fix this?

I already read all my incoming DePauw email using my personal account through POP3. How can I set up personal to do this from my Google Apps account?

While we recommend everyone use their DePauw Google Apps account for work/school purposes, you can set up a personal account to fetch your Google Apps messages. Follow the directions for Mail Fetcher to reset the connection to DePauw email by deleting the old POP3 account and adding a new one for

I’m a Senior. Can I keep my Google Apps account after I graduate?

No. After students graduate in May, their DePauw email accounts are kept active until the following August, then the accounts are removed from the system. Before August, you should plan to create an alternative email address (in case you don’t already have one) and copy your Google Apps messages there.
